Intercooler Sprayer

It seems inconceivable to me that the intercooler sprayer on my $30K+ '05 STI does not have an auto function, like the standard EVO (MR excluded). Even the stage 2 upgrade (w/toys) on my SRT-4 has an auto sprayer. It should be built into the engine controller logic based on rpm, engine load, throttle position, etc. Is there an INEXPENSIVE solution?

I just have my girlfriend reach over and push it since her head is down there anyway. =)

Seriously though, you can get a pressure or thermal switch pretty cheap. Hook up the pressure switch the same way you hook up a boot gauge. iirc, you can get an adjustable one for about $30 and just dial in the pressure you want to activate it. You could also build a circuit from a $10 programmable microcontroller to activate it at a specific RPM range.

Thermal switch might be the best bet, should also be pretty inexpensive. I'd consider a microcontroller and two temperature sensors and have it activate the water spray when it sees a big enough difference between intercooler temp and ambient air temp. This way you could also add some code that would prevent it from running indefinitely and emptying the water tank.

That's great. But I don't think she'll do that for me.

She does for me...sorry, had to say it.

But back to the question at hand. I have an adjustable pressure switch from an '84 Saab Turbo that I'll be using for my auto setup...I'll post pics later.

Here is my pressure switch diagram....I used a 5psi switch, you can get a 10 or 15.
