Intakes and air flow

Does anyone have a different intake other than stock? If so, do you guys have any problems? One of the guys at vakamon said they wouldn't recommend only because of the sensor that's already on there...something about having junk airflow. Good idea/ bad idea?

Up for ideas. Just wondering.

I have a short ram intake in my 03 wrx that keep throwin the CEL on so i will be taking it off pretty soon. I've been reading alot of threads and alot people recommend just to leave the stock intake.

I've read a lot of threads about this and the factory setup is pretty much optimized for the job, with 2 minor upgrades.

Add a drop-in panel air filter (Perrin or K&N) and the GP Moto 'Elbow' that gets rid of the silencer in the fender well BUT keeps the air flow running from the factory hood ram to the intake. You can get both on Ebay for less than $100 total.

Fender elbow does nothing except make noise.
Whilst tuning a car, we replaced the new OEM panel filter with a K&N and lost power.
However, power increased slightly with additional tuning.

unless your goin 400+ HP your stock intake is the best, the aftermarket metal ones heat up quicker and stay hot longer than the stock plastic ones

If youre gonna get aftermarket intake, it'll throw off your timing but if you get it tuned, you should be able to fix the problem

After logging multiple customer's cars, as well as a few customers doing their own logging, the SPT has quite a negative effect on IATs; gets hotter, stays hotter longer, etc.

But if a customer is using a short ram intake like SPT or a cold air one like an AEM, do you find more power is attainable from tuning compared to stock airbox?

so what you are saying the only thing the spt intake is good fro is heating the air , hearing the stock recirculator.
i hae the spt, got it roght when i got my suby, i have had no problems with it, at all, but when you sayy marginal gains is this something seen on a dyno sheet, like 3 to 5 hp, i have other mods though, like accesport, tbe that has to account for something. stage 2 aport. map

paul thanks for the stickers too. i got them the other day.

i had apexi short ram intake. no problem and no CEL. most of the intakes would not have CEL. as for power you really dont need after market intake. i got the intake just for a louder sound so i can hear the turbo spool better.

I would like to put a air filter in my air filter box that doesn't
loss any power on a dyno.
Any air filter brands you recommend useing?
