Installed K&N typhoon

It was a pretty easy install I dont notice much more power but I love how it sounds and I can hear my bov whoohoo I always wanted to be able to hear my bov. But if your looking to spend 220ish dont use it on a bov get a k&n suppoesbly more power but It sounds just as good as a new bov.

sounds great- looks good. you shouldn't expect a considerable power gain since all that "cool" air gets heated up again. if i'm not mistaken- if anything you are leaning out a little. but thats it.

Yah this intake does lean out a stock sti a lot. If your trunk gets dirty really easy from running rich, this intake won't make your trunk as dirty. That's the only cool thing I saw from this mod when I had it

I like what I'm hearing about that intake but so many are against it. I'll be getting some extra play cash here soon. I might just have to break down and get one. Is anyone using the K&N with tuning such as Cobb?

Old setup- typhoon, catback exhaust and the cobb ap using stage 1 map. It seemed and felt like it worked really well and pulled hard.

Cobb clearly says not to use aftermarket intakes with the ap.

Another old setup- this was the same setup except I changed back to stock intake. Didn't pull as hard as it did with the typhoon, didn't sound cool anymore and also it seems changing back to stock intake made me get boost creep.......a lot!

I never had boost creep once when I was using the typhoon with the ap but constantly kept hitting creep with stock intake. Don't ask me why. I tried really hard to throw the cel with the typhoon but was never able to do it. It held a consistent boost. Just my experience. Sorry so long. Hope it helps.

By all means thats good stuff. Strange that you were getting boost creep with the stock air box. I'm thinking it could be due to the fact that cobb tunes their maps for the AP in Salt Lake which is located at high altitude. Who knows.

What kind of problems with stage 2? I was planning on using the typhoon with stage 2.

cobb does not recommend it.i don't know if its because its a competing product and they want to sell their own(which is still in development).they said that k&n leans the car out.

Installed just minutes ago and I have to say it was worth the cash. WOW. The sound is incredible. Maybe not for those who want to keep a low profile. I still would like it if I could use it with Cobb stage 2. I should see if the problems could be corrected with the street tuner.

What about on a stock WRX - is the lean situation a good enough reason to not get the Typhoon?

That depends on how much of a lean condition it creates. A friend of mine with a WRX also wants to try the typhoon but he is worried because he is running stage 2 at the moment. Has anyone tried using a different intake using the stage 2 Injen map? Besides I heard both WRX and STi run rich from the factory.
