That is REDICULOUS
you know how hard it is to heat air? its not the easiest thing in the world so the volume that flows into the engine is minimally effected. (A/C backround)
The real heater on the throttle body is the coolant lines that are attached to it. If you want the same effect look up the throttle body bypass on scoobymods.

Hey speaking of heatshields, how bad is it to remove the one off of the turbo? will it melt or deform the hood? what do you guys think? Has anyone done this?

If you have a TMIC, w/o the heatshield, you will add heat to it.
A hot TMIC is not very efficient (heatsoak).

I used to build BMW 2002's, and you would always install a phenolic (plastic) spacer in between either your downdraft or sidedraft carbs and the intake manifold.
The principle is the same.
But then I also bypassed the coolant headed to the intake manifold...
E30 M3's also do the intake manifold spacer mod, so its prolly worth doing.

i had one and I couldn't tell the difference but they say say it did. It's just a plastic piece that adds a little space between the hot block and the intake manifold.
