I'm just asking cuz I'm having a motor rebuilt and it was pinging so my mechanic said they needed thicker head gaskets. So Would it effect performance or reliablity

The only reason to ever run a thicker gasket is if they had to take a lot of material off the heads when surfacing them. We use OEM head gaskets on 99.9% of builds.
Thanks
