Getting a new 2012 WRX - Should I spring for the OEM Perf Exhaust?
Hey all,
New comer here, looking to get my first Subaru within a few months, as soon as I figure out how I want to have it customized and place an order.
One of the things I'm stuck on is whether to get the SPT performance exhaust system which is priced at $1,019.99 from the dealer. ($1K?!? GEEZ!) Yeah, that's a lot of money for what I believe is a cat-back exhaust (correct me if I'm wrong.)
A few arguments going through my head for/against:
FOR getting it: Resell value if/when I sell the car later will be higher and will not void warranty in the 1% chance that something goes wrong.
AGAINST getting it: Way too expensive, aftermarket solutions can be had for much less.
Thoughts? Does it even do anything w/ regards to performance? What's the diff between the performance exhaust and the stock one?
Thanks in advance!

It really depends on your plans for the car. They have a pretty lean fuel map from the factory, so if you plan to tune it, go for it...
Intake + catback exhaust + tune = stage 1
Intake + turboback exhaust + tune = stage 2
If you get the oem exhaust (not the spt) then buy an aftermarket exhaust, you can always put the stock exhaust back to resell the car...
If you get spt, I believe it is 2.5" piping still. Most aftermarket exhausts will give you 3" tubing which will flow much better. Also, you can choose how loud of an exhaust you want and what style you like with aftermarket. Spt is pretty quiet and obviously only comes in one style.
And as you points out, spt is way overpriced.
My 2 cents...

I just picked up a 2012 wrb wrx in december and it came with the spt exhaust. Personally i think it sounds great but if you plan on modding the car i would just go with something aftermarket. I think the spt exhaust is just mainly for a better sound than the standard exhaust
