FMIC or TMIC with a td06 20g

Which intercooler would produce better numbers with the 20g on a 2006 WRX TR?

i'd say that since you have a 2.5 liter, and ur going 20g that u should go FMIC
20g's r sorta big, which would produce a lot of heatsoak on ur TMIC...
go fmic and boost the sht outta it
fmic ftw

It can be done on an STi top mount but obviously can be a little restrictive for that large of an application. Assuming you have 06 WRX, you have to upgrade the intercooler anyway, you might as well get the front mount. The APS front mount comes to mind.

Thanks. I have the STi intercooler currently, but I want to set up the car to get the most performance. Also looking to do a FMIC, and an RS cf hood and then badge it as an RS to just mess with people. just a thought.

06WRX4ME, what color car do you have? I have a CGM RS hood on my STI that I want to trade off for a wrx or STI hood.

you will have more lag with a FMIC. My friend runs a top mount with his SZ49 just fine and has instant spool.

I know a few people that have substantially bigger turbos than stock, that have left their stock tmic on and wish they wouldn't have. And on the other hand, i know people with 2 liter WRX's that went front mount and switched back to tmic because of the lag.

With a 2.5l ur guna get heat soak with a tmic if u get a bigger turbo which won't allow you to fully boost like u can with a FMIC, and.. i heard it was awful running a tmic if you choose to get a ras gas tune (100octane+). Just what iv'e heard and seen 'second' hand...
I'm very happy with my front mount, it keeps my car noticably cooler, and i get 10x more looks cuz its dead sexy. Cops around my town haven't mugged me any harder than they did... but u never know it just takes that ONE pissed off cop to ruin it =x

Finally, I'd say that if you lived in a town that doesn't have strict cops when it comes to modifications on cars, i'd DEF go FMIC. APS is the BEST, i have a BLITZ and it's really coo.

just my 2 cents

If your going for max performance with that turbo go with a FMIC. I have this turbo, I am using a TMIC. If you decide to go with a TMIC get the biggest one you can find. I went the cheapo route. I bought one from ssautochrome on ebay. I works well. It's not a total POS. I will probably swap it out for a different TMIC one of these days. The fitment could be better.

Me too.

sti4jon, My friend is running the APS top mount so that helps a bit. He wants intant response from his setup and was running a FMIC prior to the top mount. He made the same power with the top mount and a bit more torque. I do agree with you though, for bigger turbo a FMIC is ideal, I run a FMIC with my Red and love it.
