Hey, I am about to buy an sti but the car is 1000 miles from me and is going to be shipped to me (so i won't get a test drive). What I wanted to know is how the steering feels on the sti. I have driven a wrx and the steering seemed really lose compared to my volkswagen. I like how the steering wheel was harder to turn because it feels much more precise. Is the sti's steering tight like a german car? Also, for a 30000 dollar car I am not sure how much I like the interior. Also does the stereo sound nice? The reason I am asking all these questions I guess is because I am having trouble deciding between this car and an rx8 grand touring 6 speed. I have driven the rx8 and it def felt like a quality car (handling, steering, transmission, shifting) and the interior is awesome. However its not nearly as fast as the sti. Anyone offer any guidance? i appreciate it.

The STI's steering is very much like a German Car ie: Volkswagon GTI, only more percise and more feedback , the stereo sucks, the interior is functional . the only complaint I have is with the shifter, it's kinda vague/rubbery, but that can be fixed.
You have to like the harsh ride,road noise,short gearing its all part of the package.Its raw the RX-8 is civilized,refined you can't fairly compare the two.

yea well i assumed the stereo sucked but as long as the steering is as good or better than a volkswagen then I will be happy. I can easily upgrade to a good stereo. One other question, do you know if it is possible to throw a sunroof on an sti and if you can do you have any idea of the cost? Thanks and sorry for all these strange questions, dont really know all that much about the car other than how fast it is.

 

The sunroof is not an option on the STi. The steering ratio of an STi is slightly better than a WRX but not as good as an Evo. WRX is 16.5:1 while the STi is 15.0:1 but it also has a slightly smaller steering wheel

I believe the GTI is 14:1 while the Evo is 13:1 but don't quote me on those numbers.
