Blow Off Valves As Tested By Me
I'm a blow off valve freak and I love the sound. So far I've played with a Greddy Type S, Stock with no recirc elbow and hose clamped off, HKS SSQV, Worx 1.0, and GFB Hybrid BOV on Recirc.
The Greddy Type S and HKS SSQV at full 100% atmospheric make the idle dip at low rpm or if you clutch in and put it into neutral. The dip makes the car kind of funky to drive. Note, this also happens with the stock BOV w/ no plumb back elbow.
The Worx & GFB Hybrids are really nice. The Worx 1.0 has a good sound but it's quiet. You can hear it in your cabin with your windows rolled up and your music on quiet. It only blows off atmospheric at these rpms (at least in my car):
1st: 5300 RPM
2nd: 4500 RPM
3rd: 4000 RPM
4th: 4000 RPM
5th: 3800 RPM
6th: 3500 RPM
It's really nice and I like it a lot but I wanted more sound. This is where the GFB Hybrid comes in. It is much louder because of the way they made the bell mouth opening for atmospheric venting. This BOV is interesting. I got to play with it tonight and so far I like the results quite a bit but it's not as stealthy as the Worx 1.0. It blows off when you give it a bit more throttle and I think the boost is in boost and not vaccuum mode. So it will vary when it blows off. To keep it quiet and stealthy, I have to shift at around 2500, otherwise it will vent.
So far, I think I'm pretty happy with the results of these recirculating/venting BOV's. With the 100% atmospheric BOV's, I can't handle the idle dip. The 100% atmospheric BOV's are also a lot louder, but the GFB is already really loud.
If you can live with the dip in idle, then go with a 100% atmospheric
. If you want it to work like the stock BOV but still have sound, get a hybrid.
I wish someone else had a guide like this (or maybe there is one and I haven't found it) so I could have spent less time and head aches playing around with BOV's, hehehe. If I were to choose between the GFB and the Worx BOV, it's a hard toss up for me. I love the sound the GFB offers and I can still modulate when it blows off by shifting low, but the Worx one is fully adjustable. I might have to invest in the GFB Fully Adjustable Hybrid BOV, but that'll have to wait until I can accumulate more funds.
For now, I think I'm going to keep both recirc type BOV's. The others are sold already.
I hope this helped some of you out in choosing a BOV if you were ever considering one.

WORX TUNING
I've been toying around with the WORX v1.2 for a few weeks. I have to say I love this BOV the best. I think it's a little louder than the original version and it has an adjustable spring perch so you can make the spring stiffer as it breaks in and also has 5 different venting settings.

Go with a turbosmart dual port, they sound awesome look great and work perfect. You dont want a 100 percent atmospheric bov, it will make the car run funny.
