Blow Off Valve Help
Blow Off Valve Help
Hey guys,
So I am thinking about putting a Greddy RS blow off valve in my 2007 Limited WRX. The engine is stock right now but work is going to be done soon. Will the blow off valve screw up my engine? One of my buddies, he drives a jetta, warned against me putting this part in. I really want to do it, but I wanted to check with people that know more then I do. Thanks for any advice given.

From personal experience, I would wait until all your engine work is done. My engine builder ended up recommending a stock STI air bypass valve (BOV). I originally got the car with an aftermarket adjustable BOV and I bought a HKS BOV. I like the sound but there was no real performance advantage (with a stock engine). Most of the rally cars use the stock assembly. But, again from personal experience I would wait until you finished your build and then go from there. I ran the HKS for almost two years before I got my engine built. It did not cause any problems.

Just do a simple search on here and it will tell you the same
man you guys are a bunch of wussies!! ive been running hks/turboxs rfl for 2 years straight on my 06 wrx. car is fine. some people dont have the knowledge. i use bov's just for the sound, if your doing track or something staying stock would be best... but your not doing track are you.

Stay with the stock one.
Really, so yours doesn't idle poorly compared to the stock BPV? That must be some magical BOV
All it takes is a simple understanding of what the BPV/BOV does. The air it is letting out into the atmosphere the engine is expecting to come back through the intake tract, so it puts fuel into the cylinder because that air is supposed to be there. What happens then? TONS of unburned fuel.

I ran the HKS ssqv for months and the car ran the same as it did when I had the stock bpv. Granted, I only daily it and never raced with it.
total BS on the poor idle.
Tell me how, at idle, the BOV is open.
Yeah, at idle (or just open loop) the car runs off MAF voltage directly, but at idle there's not enough load to spoolup, therefore the popoff is never activated. There could be long term fueling corrections due to rich conditions on throttle closing, but this won't **** with idle. It will if you rev your engine like paul walker.
Do what you want; an aftermarket blowoff has the ability to move more air, much faster than the stocker. It also holds high boost more effectively (if it doesn't suck) Recirculate it if you don't want to do major tuning for it.

I think that I would be using the part just for the satisfaction of the noise. No I will not be racing the car either. I have just graduated college and I am not making a lot of money right now. I just want to be sure that if I put this part on I wont have to buy a new engine in like a year.

Agreed, low and rough idle can be caused by vacuum leaks, and I bet that cheapo bov was the culprit!
If this is your modification algorithm, buy a catback instead. Way better sound to $ payoff.
The only reason I have my turbonetics raptor is that I have lots of custom piping/turbo/pressure needs. It's set up recirculating, and sounds mighty fine also.
Recirc unless you're running a Holeshot diesel compressor at 30psi.
