From what I have heard it can cause damage to the exhaust side of the turbo due to the heat not being allowed to properly dissapate.

I think he doesnt know if it sounds like a good idea, hence the asking.

The heat will not escape properly, as RedStage mentioned, if youre running catless and you after-fire youll have a fireball under your car, you'll actually loose some low end torque, and your turbo wont perform as well do to the giant loss in back pressure (yes, back pressure is both good and bad, you need a fine balance).

?

i thought that if you have no cat it reduces heat in the exhaust because of the reduced restriction. i look at it like a boiling pot it the lid is on "cat back" the pot will increase in heat and gain heat faster. rather than the pot uncapped "catless" a pot will not get as hot and the heat will disapate faster through a more free flowing exhaust.

Good thing your exhaust pipes are not a boiling point on top of a burner and your exhaust gas is not stagnant water. Concepts like exhaust plumbing can't be oversimplified with such an analogy. All that exhaust and heat needs to be channeled away from the turbo. It doesn't necessarily have to travel a far distance, like a side exist exhaust, but it does need to travel somewhere away from the turbo.

Not to mention, dumping exhaust strait from the turbo will make enemies out of any neighbors you have because it is obnoxiously loud. That's something people on Monster Garage would do, not someone who actually wants to drive their car. A catback will allow the addition of a muffler to keep the noise level don and by the time the gasses exit from the rear of the car, the gass is cool enough to where it won't cause heat stress to any near by metal and it wont strip away any paint and stain everything with black carbon residue.

i was just trying to simplify it for others. what im trying to say is that performance purposes having a cat is just a restriction and to gain the true power out of your car is having a happy catless car.
