2006 Stage 2 WRX TR Protune results from Paul at DBtuned

Well finally got the beast protuned. Ran for around 20k miles on stage 2 and wasn't happy with its hiccups, wanted a smoother power curve. So got it protuned by Paul, and here it is:

Mods:

STI TMIC
Panel Filter
Turbo XS TBE (Full 3", Stromoung muffler, with a CAT)

Turbo:
Stock td04L

Gas:

91 Octane ACN

Verdict:

Cobb STage 2 OTS map
201.3whp
223.2wtq

Protuned stage 2 (Cobb protuner software)
239.9whp
289.8whtq

Max boost about 16 psi

Teh Proof:

Me Happy

Big Thanks to Paul over at DBTuned.

damn i have almost the same mod as you.

im running 217/251. a protune from GST.

does the STi TMIC help that much? or just another tune?

im planning getting 18g turbo soon, and hope i can get really close to 300whp

but really nice number for you bro

I wouldn't discount the STi TMIC. The stock 06 wrx one flows horribly, and the y-pipe is very restrictive. Not to mention the STI one is far more effective in cooling.

As for the tune...Mike at GST is good and so is Paul. Matter of fact I believe the 2 are good friends. I would have no problems tuning with either. Both are very reputable and professional.

I bet the 18g will probably get you knockin on 300whp's door. Good luck and let me know how your tranny holds up, I've been eyeballin the FP for quite sometime.

Mike and I have the same dyno.
His reads Xhp/tq lower than mine.

What were your baseline numbers?

i didnt really have a baseline.

i bought my cobb AP and it already has a stage 2 map that is tuned by mike, so i just put that in, and pushing 207/245. and since its the map from another car i tuned the car again after installed on my car and got 217/251

i would think you could get more power out of a stage 2 tune especially with a 2.5

Question

Wow, those are some nice numbers. I was wondering how much did it cost you to get your ecu reflashed?

Well to do what I did, you have to buy an AP first, which MSRP at $695. Then a Protune runs between $300-$400 depending on how big a PITA your car is.

I dunno if Paul uses ECUTEK or any of the others which would be cheaper overall, give him a call.

You need to figure out what you want out of the car. My numbers are with stock turbo making 16 psi.

What are your goals with the car? What are you gonna do with it? How fast you want to go? Whats your budget like? These are all questions you should be able to answer before you start modding.

i wanna be able to keep up with at least a slightly moded sti. is 16 psi safe for the stock turbo? i just dont feel like pushing my mostly stock car to the "limit" if i should get a bigger turbo i think all i want is they sti turbo 39 or 43. what do you think?

It all depends. If you drive hard and semi-abusive with a 39 or 43, your tranny will hate you. Vf43 is a temperamental beast, Vf39 is tried and true. Paul likes the Vf22, and the 18g isn't bad either. All up to you.
