Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Is XS Engineering High?

"All these benefits of added performance are generated with less than 150rpm of additional turbo lag." -XS Engineering website.

This quote was in regards to their front mount for the wrx, they are saying the difference between a fmic and tmic in terms of lag is 150RPM. I thought the lag was much greater than this, am I wrong?

If this were indeed truly so, XS Engineering would have my business You sure they didn't mean 1500rpm? That'd be more reasonable hehe.

this statement is vague though..no mention of setup, ecu, etc...all of which affect lag..the turbo and IC are just 2 components in the equation..timing map, fuel map, boost, etc. are all factors in determining lag.

How can lag be measured by RPMs? Lag, if it were to be measured, would be measured in time. Maybe they meant boost threshold? Boost threshold being the earliest RPM the turbocharger would create positive manifold pressure.

lag can be measured in rpms as to where the boost came on before and after.

It is actually possible to get les lag with a FMIC...jsut takes the right combo of parts...again, their statement is too vague

So which combos out there have been known to have minimum lag when compared to stock. I'm looking at garrett gt's.

"Where the boost came on" is boost threshold not lag.

Lag is the amount of time it takes the turbocharger to creat boost when hitting the gas, making the assumption that the engine is in an RPM range which allows the turbo to create boost. Lag is measured in time.

Threshold is the earliest RPM that the turbocharger will create boost. Threshold is measured in RPMs.

This is all covered in Corky Bell's Maximum Boost, if you don't already own it, buy it now!

There are countless turbos out therer....Garrett GT's are among them, but requires all sorts of custom work.

For a bolt on upgrade utilizing some Garrett GT parts, there are the various hybrids offered by many of us out there including XS Engineering .

thnx for the suggestion, but my comment goes under the assumption that 90% of the people out there can not differentiate threshold from lag.

............I think XS somewhere said that they get like 14 HP just from their intake alone.

I'm pretty sure Turbo XS' dyno always makes numbers that are on the high side. You can't really compare HP #s from two dynos made by different manufacturers because they are clearly going to be calibrated and used differently. The main use of them is to find relative changes in power and torque.
