XS engineering cai
dyno proven that the xa engineering cold air intake results in about 13 hp gain if u rememver correctly.
IS this true, if so that is good!
Some, or should i say, many people say that you should not get an aftermarket intake for the wrx because it is indeed TURBO.
They say it may even decrease hp and torque.
Does anyone have this intake?
I appreiate your wise feedbacks.

Yeah I have the intake. I had it for about 3-4 months. Definitly power increase. All through out the power band. Never through a CEL either, despite what some say.

I have had the intake for about 2 months. Never threw a cel but I didn't recieve hardly any noticable gains. I am unsure about how Turbo mag got 13 hp out of the intake because 13 hp at the wheels would be a very noticable gain. Personally I would say to not get the intake. It looks nice under the hood but the gains aren't there from my experiences.

well, if it werent for the power gains, i'd run a stock intake. especially since i rally or go get my car dirty every weekend and go through filters alot. (and since its a pain in the a$$ to change the filter, i have less of a reason to keep the XS Engineering CAI)
the good:
very noticable power gains, good in rain (doesnt suck up water), makes more cool noise, rolled edges on piping to prevent hoses slipping off, and looks good.
the bad:
changing filters a PITA, gets dirty fast if you partake in off-roading, rolled edges make it a PITA to install and take off, and finish on piping gets damaged/ stained easily.
bottom line:
makes a great power increase, but CAI's really have no business in offroading. if you have a street only car, then BUY BUY BUY!!! if you off-road, then you should go stock or run a shorty intake.

From Rhys Millen:

Do not be fooled by so called "cold air intakes." The turbo unit is the hottest part of the engine. As soon as the air travels through the turbo it heats up to a constant temperature anyway. There is no reason to risk damaging your turbo induction impellers with road derby. Keep your intake in the engine bay!

do you even know Rhys Millen?!?! I actually do... and he's never called me a fool cuz I have a cold air intake on my Subaru, which he knows little about.
the dyno Rhys uses is the same dyno that XS Engineering uses, its XS Engineering's dyno in fact. so... do the dyno #'s mean nothing to you??? A dyno is far from 100% accurate, but its more accurate than opinions. I also thought, "what a load of crap!" but i looked at the dyno's and my disbelief and excess of money led me to buy it and see for myself... and what i found out was
IT DOES WORK!!!

ok this is very complicated then!
How can some say it does not work at all(dwithbooth) and some say it works really good (porkchopwrx).
This cannot be true, it either works good or doesn't work good. SOmebody is making up **** or they are lieing to themselves because they wasted those few benjamins.
SO what is the deal? IT that myth about the 13 horses being gained true? Does it actually work?
ANswers please

well it works... i have no real explaination why, but it does indeed make a lot of noticable power! in fact, there was such a big difference that my car freaked out for a day until the ecu adjusted to it. i had insane lag, idled rough, and was slower, but the next day it pulled like crazy, idled smoothly, and had no more lag than before.
i had examined the Import Tuner dyno before and I even got a raw copy of their dyno to examine. (they are down the street from me) these intakes make power throughout the powerband and its not like AEM's 12hp increase on a honda where the power peaked like crazy within a 500 rpm range then dropped back to normal.
Again, all i know is it works... dont take my word, its ok... your money can be spent on other mods to make good power as well. an aftermarket intake isnt necessary to make big power and many tuners dislike em, so its not compatible with the staged packages provided by every tuner and their mama.
