whats wrong with my car? weird knock (broken mounts?)

whenever i take off, reverse or if the car bucks from letting off the clutch too fast or not taking off fast enough, i get a REALLY loud knock each time the car jumps, and it does it sometimes when i downshift

i was thinking motor mounts or transmission mount (leaning towards tranny mount) so i pulled it out and this is what i got

i should add that i added a cusco sway bar a while back and the driver side bolt that attaches the bar to the end link apparently fell out and i thought that originally that might be the problem but i dont think its that

That's crazy! Time for STi mounts!

I had the exact same issue, but it was my downpipe knocking against the subframe. Stupid thing drove me nuts for a week until I could fix it.

I don't know what its supposed to look like, but that top photo looks like the hole has been chewed up.

btw - i would time "time for sti mounts" as a "no that's not what its supposed to look like"

Nope it was the Vishnu TB. I had to take off the bracket that's normally on the 3rd cat. Keeping it bolted to that bracket would pull the whole exhaust forward and make it knock.

To me it sounds like what the others are saying, it's most likely coming from your exhaust. Did you get an exhaust recently?

I had the same problem. Took it to the dealer, got charged cause they found out it was due to the catback exhaust, but had it fixed. It has something to do with the piping hitting the subframe as what Mexicanpizza said. I don't know what the tech did to fix it but I have no problems now.

TTT, i saw a pic of the stock one and it looks like mine so apparently that shouldn't be the problem

any other suggestions?

could a missing rear sway bar endlink bolt be the problem?

Go in 4th gear at 80 mph, and brake till you reach 50 mph. Once you reach 60 mph, downshift into 3rd while moderate braking (till 50). See if it makes that noise.
