Whats the difference between turboback and catback exhaust systems? Pros/cons? Also, should I change my uppipe or downpipe first?

 

The Name implies the Difference.

Cat Back runs from the last Cat back (Thus leaving all the CATs in place) Turbo Back runs from the Turbo Back, thus removing all cats, depending on the model. TurboBack exhausts replace the Downpipe, so if you got that, you wouldn't have to worry about your other question.

HOwever, if I were you, I'd do the uppipe first, as it's the hardest to install.

It would be helpful to know what your goals are before you do any modifications.
A lot of WRX owners go cat back, up pipe, IC hoses, spark plugs and some sort of ECM/boost Mgmt. That setup alone will be pretty nice.

i don't know where you guys get your **** but that downpipe is the size of the tip on my moms focus.if your going to spend the money on an exhaust get a real one,that would be one that both of your hands couldn't fit around...

 

daaamn thats crazy! For a downpipe to bigger than what you cant wrap both your hands around must be around 6in! (this is with my hands)

 

it works for me im putting down 283 whp, its a pde and the photo makes it look smaller than it realy is. im talking about the down pipe. pervert

 

my wrx is stock. how much more power would an uppipe and downpipe add? what is the average cost for a decent uppipe and downpipe installed?

I think I've finally got it!

I have one question though...so that little bump on the midpipe in the exhaust is just a resonator and not at catalytic converter? What does it do? just quiet the exhaust note? How much power does it take away?


If this is so...would a Perrin catless up-pipe, Perrin catless down-pipe, and an Apexi N1 Catback exhaust mean there are absolutely zero catalytic converters on the car???
