what problems will i get with a bov
Hey I'm new to the whole turbo car thing. I really love the sound of a BOV, but I am wondering what problems I may encounter bolting on an HKS valve to an otherwise stock car. I have a 2002 WRX and plan on building up an killer engine after the car can stop and corner. I am wondering what sort of drivability problems I may encounter and how to deal with them. Any input would be appreciated.

You will run rich with a fully atmospheric BOV. Remove those cats and you can shoot fireballs You might be able to get away with a comprise, like with the 50/.50 GFB. I dunno, but with a loud aftermarket model that still has an return line might still sound good and avoid the rich problems.

Does 50/50 mean half the air is still diverted back to the intake via the tube? Who makes valves like this and can I still expect that cool noise. If I mod the intake with a free flow perrin or similar filter will it be louder?

If you got the bolt on HKS made specificly for the WRX it should come "set" from the factory. I just bolted mine on and have not had any leaks, loss of boost, hesitation between shifts, etc.

why would you buy a 50/50 hybrid from GFB when you could get the fully adjustable stealth for GFB that can be set to 50/50, 100%, 0% and anywhere in between? seems a bit silly to me... i have the GFB stealth and it allows you to adjust it anyway you want without hassle. If you want it loud then goto 100% atom, if you want something that makes the noise and still performs well then i've noticed 40atom/60recirc works pretty well. If you decide to go on a long trip or have a splitting headache then adjust it to 0% recirc. it's that simple!

Like the HKS, many are fully atmospheric. The only "hybrid" i know of is also the GFB. Howver, like HKS, many fully atmospheric BOV manufacturers also make return kits that let you channel the otherwise atmosphere-bound blow off back to the intake system.

I have the Greddy TYPE S Bov on my 02 WRX and I have never had any problems running rich. I also have no cats left and have never shot a fireball. The only issue that was associated with the installation of the bov was that if you intend to vent it to the atmosphere you need to make the recirculation tube 100% sealed off or the car will not idle correctly. I have also had to adjust the bov to the tighten position so that it will not leak during idle. I feel that if you correctly install and adjust any aftermarket bov to a wrx you should have no problems.
