Low gas mileage is not caused by the car running rich. If you think about it, only the extra air is being released so no extra fuel is adding into the mixture, however less air + same fuel = running rich. Bad gas mileage comes from people driving so they can hear the BOV when they shift, which causes them to throttle more and waste gas.

Besides the stock BOV, which works well, I also like my APS unit. I have had zero problems from it.

The point of a valve, be it a recirc or atmo valve, is to prevent damage to the turbo and to do so reliably. If the stock valve is prone to failure or is incapable of discharging enough air then a replacement that can perform as needed, regardless of its sound, is a good idea.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with buying a valve that looks or sounds better than the stock piece.

the stock BOV can hold up to 19-21psi. With regular bolt on mods (as in the situation first asked about) you are not going to surpass the limits of the stock valve. True, there is nothing wrong with buying a parts for looks or sound......as long as you dont call ****tiest gas mileage in the world, and your engine running extremely rich when the BOV goes off bad things

What about the WRX Hybrid BOV from Go Fast Bits? A 50/50 valve can't be as bad as a fully atmospheric valve can it?

Except that you actively spent a considerable amount of what I am assuming is hard earned money on something that will never work as good as the stock piece (given that you have stock-mild set up). And the only reason you did it is to hear (more than likely so that all others can hear) your turbo sneeze every time you shift.

Am I missing anything here???

Yes. This entire thread is confusing to the point of being useless and potentially misinformative, people are using the term "bov" to describe two different devices: a vent to atmosphere valve and a recirculation valve. You cannot claim that "bovs" are a detriment and then claim that the stock "bov" works perfectly under such and such conditions. Beyond that you have personal preference, these cars are primarily ego satisfiers, all that you can do is educate about the potential pitfalls and allow the person to make their own decision. If they are willing to assume the potential risks for the gain that they perceive it is their choice and it is keeping in line with the reason for purchasing a car like these.

And if you reread my post you will see that I worded it carefully to directly reply to the post preceding it.

And to directly reply to your post:
Our direct replacement valve would have no disadvantages to the stock piece but would have the advantage of being configurable to operate at boost levels approaching 40 psi, if you should happen to upgrade you car later, and is warranted for life.
