water pump

a few days ago i went into my dealership and talked with one of the guys at the service dept while they checked on my car.

i was told that someone had an 04 and some mods. it flooded out a bit the other week and he said that the cold air intake sucked up a brick load of water from a puddle and shot it into the engine. the engine was completely shot and will probably take 8 g's to fix.

i understand that cold air intakes go to the bottum of the fender well to get the air, i think, but isn't there anything to stop water from going up? not that i plan to get that type of intake, but i'm really curious if there was something to prevent it.

I have the K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake, it is one of those that goes down into the fender. The directions say you should convert it into a ram intake in the winter for those exact reasons. I just did it today. Well I dont know about other manufacturers but K&N has a water resistant mesh sock that goes around the filter. I guess if you hit a big enough puddle or you sit in standing water or wade through it I am sure it would not hold out the water. Cheers

That guy w/ the 04 probaly went threw the water at Ahua ST., big mistake. AEM has this piece that seperates the two pipes so if water gets sucked in water falls threw this safely breathable mesh that = no water in the engine.
