Question Wastegate Problem??

Hi, I have an 04 wrx, right now its back to stock because i was having problems. I used to have mbc, cai and bov now its back to stock but im still having the same problem. The problem is when i get hard on the gas or get to about 5000 rpm the car sputters, hesitates and sounds like detonation? Then the boost will spike at 20psi and sputter up and down between 20psi and 10psi. I was told it could be a wastegate problem? I really need your guys help im new to the turbo world. Thanks. Tom

first of all, don't drive it if its spiking to 20psi. What did you put on the car before it started doing this? Are you sure you installed all the stock hoses propperly?

The car had an AEM cold air intake, Turbo xs MBC, and Turbo xs BOV. I think the hoses are proper the restrictor is going to the wastegate, and the non-restricted part of the "T" goes to the stock boost controller etc. Thanks for your help guys im going to work on the car some more now ill let you know if i get anywhere. I think that's your problem.... The hose with the restrictor pill inside needs to be comming off the compressor housing nipple I believe.

Hey Ed, What do you mean by "pill inside" I have a little white "T" that has two big hole and one small. Is that what you mean, or am I using the wrong "T". Thanks again. Tom

No, I'm talking about the piece of hose that has a little metal restrictor inside. You can feel it with your fingers. This hose needs to go on the compressor side barb.
