Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

VF34 is probably a better choice. The PE1818 is pretty close to it and PE1820 will have a bit more lag but more top end. However, both PE's are dramatically more expensive. The VF series are more common and less expensive.

Simple... Turbochargers are a type of forced induction system. They compress the air flowing into the engine. The advantage of compressing the air is that it lets the engine squeeze more air into a cylinder, and more air means that more fuel can be added. Therefore, you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A turbocharged engine produces more power overall than the same engine without the charging. This can significantly improve the power-to-weight ratio for the engine. In order to achieve this boost, the turbocharger uses the exhaust flow from the engine to spin a turbine, which in turn spins an air pump. The turbine in the turbocharger spins at speeds of up to 150,000 rotations per minute (rpm) -- that's about 30 times faster than most car engines can go. And since it is hooked up to the exhaust, the temperatures in the turbine are also very high.

In a supercharger, there is a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that the water pump or alternator does.

Hope that helps a little.

for a relatively stock wrx, i think the 1820 is a little to big for the streets, but i think both 1818 and vf34 are good, especially with the ball-bearing design. Vf 34 is rated between 300-350 hp, and the 1818 can go 400+, so it just really depends on the power you seek.

i have heard the 1820 is an all around better performer than the 1818. both are fairly ineffcient compressor-wise so you need good intercooling.

honestly i would go with a 16 or 18g instead.
