VF34 with Stock Downpipe

I'm thinking of having a VF34 package (turbo, inj, fp), uppipe and a 3" catback installed. I want to keep the stock downpipe and the 3rd cat.

I know the downpipe is restrictive and the setup will not max the hp gains. i can live with that. I'd compromise on hp gain and keeping the cats.

Anyone have this setup and does it bring it to about 239 whp?

thanks,

I'm no expert but I don't think that would be a good idea. I'm pretty sure you'll need some EM and a DP to run that safely. A TBE is needed to run a Cobb stage 2 map and that's with the oe turbo. Why not just buy a TBE with a high flow cat?

There is no way you will get that kind of power with the stock dp. Spool-up times will be horrible as well...you can't get to stage 2 w/o stage 1 parts.

you'll be fine as long as you have some sort of EM.
I ran that set-up for awhile with a stock cat-back. Expect about 200 - 210 to the wheels tuned (it was @ Gruppe-S dyno)

So you want to keep all cats, very commendable that someone wants to keep improving the environment.

I have a ported and polished VF-34 with PE 650 injectors, walbro Fuel pump, STi up pipe, crank pulley, straight through design catback, intake, intercooler hoses, and the helix catted downpipe.

On the Vishnu dyno dynamics I made 247.8 to the wheels.

I think if you are looking for a little more power it would be more benefitial to get a ported, polished, and re-finned, stock turbo housing. I dont mean to sound like the VF-34 is a bad thing, it is just, the turbo runs off exhaust, and when you are restricting the exhaust flow with environment saving cats, the turbo doesnt work that well. So I think if you have a smaller turbo housing it will work better to spool and make power quicker.

Good luck and keep us posted on WHP

Where can I get the turbo setup you mentioned? This option sounds good to me. Except for the catted downpipe, I was thinking of a very similar setup with your setup. With the option of having a ported stock turbo, I like this setup. I was also going to have vishnu tune the car.

Thanks for all the responses.

Go to: http://www.boostplanet.com/services.htm

They have sections on their site to where you can get stock turbo's with upgraded wastegates, compressor wheels and such. Definatly get it ceramic coated, they are very informative and really love the products they sell, call them and talk to them about your project.

Vishnu will do a great job tuning your car under any circumstances, no need to worry there.

you might want to think about running the helix cat downpipe, you'll get a better exhaust flow.
