I heard minor modifications are needed for the US on. From what I heard the JDM one is a straight bolt on.

I believe the JDM unit is 40% bigger than the USDM WRX and 14% bigger than the USDM STI.

If you install a JDM STi TMIC, make sure to check for clearance---lack of, that is, at the firewall. The A/C lines may(will) have to be bent/re-routed/padded in order to prevent damage to them.
Be sure to look at where the inlet ducts may rub and not just the endtank. I had the small A/C line on the drivers side rub through at the inlet duct, and the large line on the passengers side above the service valve needed to be heavily padded to prevent damage.

I would also strongly recomend an STi hoodscoop and an STi splitter.
I got a Ver.7 STi RA Spec C Air Splitter & Intercooler Seal Kit, which is a VERY lightweight aluminum splitter from rallispec.
Perfect fit and the splitter/seal weighs 1.5 pounds MAX.
I had a GT-Spec splitter and it was stainless steel and weighed at least 10 pounds....probably more.

The JDM IC fits perfectly...the A/C lines just interfere with it.

Miguel, it sounds like you are leaning towards the JDM piece but someone is selling a used USDM STi intercooler with y-piping and OEM BOV for $375 in the For Sale By Members forum.
