Up/Down/Race--stock exhaust
Up/Down/Race--stock exhaust
Sup i-clubbers,
Putting money down for a crucial racing downpipe and crucial racing race pipe. for those unfamiliar with the race pipe, its the third cat delete pipe and crucial's pipe has a 3" opening from the downpipe and leads to a 2.5" opening. Both will be used in conjunction with an STi up pipe and my STOCK exhaust components on my 05 WRX. So, heres my questions and yes, I've searched;
1: Will this setup (catless) cause any kind of negatory effects with my stock exhaust pieces (boost creep, crappy exhaust tone etc...)
2: will the 2.5" opening of the race pipe work in conjunction with aftermarket catback exhaust systems? (Looking at either perrin single tip, greddy evo2. I Prefer single tip oval canisters)
3: Will engine management become an issue? (OL/CL issue)
4: Will this void my warranty? (kidding =P)
Thanks clubbers!!!

most 3inch catbacks are full 3inch and don't mate up to a 2.5 opening from the downpipe. could get an adapter. wont need the em but to make use of the most power from those parts might as well.
Thanks for the info, but don't most catback exhaust systems connect to the dp anyway? Also, if you look at my first post, I mentioned the type of exhausts i prefer. If no one has seen it yet, check out Mad dad's latest...I'm 99.9% sure this is the exhaust for me...

I suggest that you get an exhaust that is 3" the whole way. The bottleneck in the racepipe may or may not cause fitment issues, but either way its not going to flow like a 3" tbe.
Once you put on the tbe you probably will have the ol/cl delay, so you will eventually need a reflash or em to solve that.

1) your check engine light will come on for removing the cats
2) not familiar with fitment for crucial racing..?
3) yeah, you will want to get your ecu reflashed for your mods. Having a catless setup will be flowing way more exhaust and will make you run lean which can lead to detonating/pinging/knocking
Get some intercooler hoses since you're doing all that stuff, the stock y pipe blows!

-No...maybe CELs but those can be fixed in a variety of ways.
2: will the 2.5" opening of the race pipe work in conjunction with aftermarket catback exhaust systems? (Looking at either perrin single tip, greddy evo2. I Prefer single tip oval canisters)
-You will have to check to see what size flange the catback systems come with and if they are 2.5 or 3.0" tubing. Best thing is to go all 3" but if you have say a DP that tapers down from 3 to 2.5 and then a exhaust that tapers up from 2.5 to 3 then it has a small portion where the two taper to meet each other where there is restriction. best thing is to get a full turbo-back like the RSR or at least call around to make sure that everything matches.
3: Will engine management become an issue? (OL/CL issue)
-CELs mostly...I'd get a reflash or AP which will take care of this and optimize performance with the parts you have.
4: Will this void my warranty? (kidding =P)
-Yup.
