up or down?
i'm getting my vishnu intercooler hoses and power pully kit installed today, and i was wondering what i should get next....an up-pipe, or a down-pipe?
i'm getting it from vishnu, so that narrows that down, but which one should i get first?

save your money and get both at the same time. It'll save you alot of time during the install. If you get the up-pipe, the down-pipe has to come off anyways. If you get the down-pipe, you'll have to take it off again when you put the up-pipe in.
i thought this way too, but decided against the downpipe. you don't actually 'save' any money because it costs at least $200 just for the piece. it's really easy to put in anyway so put it off if you don't want to spend that money.
how noticeable is the uppipe power-wise and spool-wise? i've heard yea it'll spool earlier (doesn't that eat more gas though) but nothing about how much power you get. i have an sti pipe sitting around i'm debating whether to pay someone to put in.

Put it in yourself. It's not that hard if you have access to tools and have done any wrenching before. If not, I would think a competent Subaru shop could put it in for around $150.
Vishnu's site has a good write-up on installing the uppipe as part of their Stage Zero kit.
Spool up will be much sooner which will make the car a lot more fun to drive. Gas mileage will suffer but only because your foot will get heavier due to the extra power!

If you really only want to do one of them, then do the up-pipe. It is sort of a pain to install, especially if you have to do it in your garage. If you have access to a lift, then that helps. There is prep time involved, meaning there is a bunch of heat sheilding that has to come off before hand that is a pain in the rear. As a single component, I didn't really notice anything after installing the up-pipe, but it compliments other stuff that you put on such as the other exhaust components.
If you have an STi one laying around. Put that in and buy a downpipe. Then you get both, instead of just one. I did both and noticed a big difference immediatly. Sounds sweet too.

i agree with everyone else here. the uppipe should be installed first. its a total pain in the ****. but after that youll feel like youve conquered the world.
the lack of spool time is great with the uppipe. and if you want to get the dp, its a simple 30minute -1hour bolt on.
