TXS Wastegate?

I was reading recently in a import tuning magazine about the WRX's problem of boost dropping off after 5k RPM, my wrx has this problem also, and if you replace the stock wastegate with a turboxs one it will hold boost pressure until redline. They also uped it to 16 psi while they were at it, has anyone had any experiences with the mod? Is it safe? and how will it affect my 100,000 mile warranty.

your wrx drops boost after 5k rpm because it's programmed to do that. simply upping the boost through mechanical mods without altering engine management can cause problems in the long run. and as for your warranty, you will probably be denied any claim that relates to the engine / drivetrain if you do this mod.

Stock wastegate with a turboxs one? Are you sure you are using the correct term? Maybe boost controller?

Last time I checked, TXS Doesn't have a wastegate product.. at least from what their site says.

Anywho; On my stock WRX, err rather.. when the stock motor was in. I ran ~ 21psi. The motor let go due to fueling issues after a while. So the rebuilt motor that I have in there now is quite nice. Basically same thing. Only everything is forged and the cylinders are sleeved. Running at 19psi, I now have 59,000 miles on it, without a hitch, knock on wood.

If I were you, on a stock turbo. It really begins to lose its efficiency around 17psi. So keep it at 16 if you are going to 'up' it. Honestly I suggest before even doing something as small as that. Go buy a used utec or unichip. Get some engine management going first.. then some fueling. Then start messing with boost.

Just my two cents.

P.S. Most dealers, do not accept mods at all. Most dealerships will not service modified cars, you are lucky if you find one that does. My dealership looked at my like I was nuts when I asked for an oil change.. and all I have is a stage 4 with a FMIC and catch can. and some other little goods.. I guess they got confused when they saw the nitrous bosses...
