www.vishnutuning.com will show you what a stage 1 package consists of. i think its a TBE and up pipe but i really dont remember. and the bov thing - depends on your BOV, 100% atmospheric = bad, 50/50 = good, but stock is best w/out extensive modification (new turbo, high boost)

Where you planning on getting your ECU done? Ask them as the "stage 1" package might vary a little from one to the next.

I've had both the TXS RFL and HKS bov on my car and I've never gotten a code from either one. The car only runs rich for a moment when shifting.

Expensive compared to what? Dollar-for-HP there's no cheaper upgrade to a WRX. Considering that you can gain 35 hp over the stock ECU without changing a single part in your car, an ECU reflash seems pretty cheap compared to a $700 turbo, $500 worth of injectors, a $250 fuel pump and $400 fuel rails (a 35-50 hp gain) or a $1200 turboback exhaust (15-20 HP gain); and the modified ECU can be used in combination with parts upgrades to create even more performance. In fact, the majority of WRX mods simply can't be made or taken advantage of without an ECU upgrade or reflash; the EJ20T is extremely dependent upon electronic management compared to other engines.

if you think 650 is expensive, you should hold off on modding. i know i am, for the moment.

now days you don't need to get a new ecu, tuners can reflash the maps of your current ecu.
heck you don't even have to have tuners do it, since the cobb accessport came out.

also each tuner has a different view of what stage one is. cobb stage one has a whole lot less than a vishnu stage one. check out all the various tuners like cobb, turboxs, vishnu, subydude, and read up on stages.

an aftermarket bov should not throw a cel, but they run rich between shifts, which isn't that much i think. they have absolutely no purpose until you run a bigger turbo. unless your purpose is to scare people as you pass them by.

a mbc in the wrong hands is

if you don't know how to use it then you better start reading up on how to install it from scoobymods.com and the limits you should be facing with a stock turbo and fuel system.

There is much more to power than just boost you know. Like timing and a/f ratios all play a role in the level of power and danger you have in either making the monster run like a bat out of hell or causing some serious knock and detonation and toasting a good motor.

There are plenty of posts on this do a search and get some tips and advice
