TMIC off of EBAY
I'm looking at these TMIC on ebay for like 200-250 bucks. Does anybody know anything about them? Are they junk? I know there really cheap but it looks decent. They claim some good stuff. One of them is titled HUGE TOP MOUNT INTERCOOLER FOR 02-05 WRX STI 19.9X8X4.5. The other one is Turbo XS POWER TM Intercooler TMIC Subaru WRX Impreza - Present Hyperflow TMIC & BLOW OFF VALVE OFF VALVE. I'm just trying to get something to hold me over untill i can afford the big boy front mount. Any help would be great. I just don't want to get stuck with that good old ebay junk.
My buddy has one that he bought off of Ebay. It looks great and doesn't look cheap. I think he bought it from SSautochrome. He told me that it said "Scooby TMIC" for WRX/STI. I'm looking into the FMIC go with with my 18G. Good luck.
i bought the hyperflow tmic from ebay for 250,,,,i just installed it and its pretty good,,,i can feel a little more spool up then stock one,,but the only problem was that it didn't come with the y pipe,,,so be careful when you order it make sure you read everything and make sure it comes with the y pipe,,,i had to buy the samco y hose and cut it in half to put a steel piece of pipe to make the y pipe fit the turbo...on scooby mods theres the pic of it,,,jus go on car reviews and look for tmic,,,itll have pics and explanations why you need the pipe extension...good luck and i say buy it,,,,
One other issue to consider (which I have been wondering about, considering an upgrade myself) is how the intercooler mates up with the hood scoop. The stock WRX and STI intercoolers fit tightly with a rubber gasket that extends down from the scoop, funneling air straight through the intercooler. If you change the intercooler but not that gasket, then you aren't using 100% of the new surface area, but just putting air through the center of it.
I've seen the SSAutochrome intercooler up close, and it is really quality work -- clean welds and a nice shiny finish. I have no idea why some intercoolers are incredibly expensive (Perrin, APS, JDM STI) and others are so inexpensive, but perhaps there just isn't much demand for aftermarket TMICs since most who go with a new turbo would also opt for an FMIC. I priced the APS intercooler and the matching hood scoop splitter for it (which requires an STI hood scoop as well) and the total for that came to more than the APS FMIC with the bumper beam replacement.

so far i have been happy with mine.
i had to retune my high rpm ignition timing on the utec because of the change in charge air density.
went from a previous max of 4.6 maf volts to 4.7. this is good.
got mine for 190 shipped.
