I heard that some folks started using mothball-ish products for octane booster. Yeah it'll slightly raise your overall tank octane. But downsides are FAR greater than going out and just getting some higher octane gasoline or dumping in pre-lubed toluene or xylene.

Using moth-anyting is a BAD idea. Mothballs (naphthalene) has a bad C-to-H ratio which lends to carbon deposits. Moth "crystals" (paradichlorobenzene), is like cyclohexane with two H atoms replaced with Chlorine atoms.... 6C 4H 2Cl ...guess what one of the by products of combustion are? HCl ... yep Hydrchrloric Acid. That's gotta be no fun for you car. Carbon deposits or acid.

Ya learn somethin new everyday. I've never even heard of doing this before. Just the thought of adding mothballs to your gas just doesn't sound like it would be safe

But at least your gas tank would be free of those pesky moths.

damn, HCl. Better kiss your rings and injectors and lots of other things GOODBYE.
Injectors would be safe, since the HCl wouldn't be around until combustion happened. But yeah, rings, valves, exhaust gaskets, your headers, that $600 exhaust, and your cat would be fried within minutes. Wow what a horrible thought. Unless it was someone else's car you saw it hapen to.
