Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

the vishnu is made with better metal but is more expensive than the perrin. neither will leak assuming proper installation and good gaskets. really, just pick one that has more features that are useful to you.

I want to point out that they are both made out of 321 stainless now. The new Vishnu with the flex joint is made of 304.

Vishnu up-pipe $309 - parts page:

http://www.vishnutuning.com/parts.htm

Perrin up-pipe $249.99:

http://www.perrinperformance.com/pro...ipe/UPPIPE.htm

Both up-pipes are constructed of 321 stainless steel, with 1/2" flanges.

Their first couple generations of the pipe were 304, I believe they're on their 3 iteration. It's 321 steel with a bead blasted finish, very tasty, as is their downpipe I believe.

Thoughts on longevity/performance/etc?

Our take on the matter is pretty simple. For a street driven car, a flex 304 will provide years of trouble-free use. The existence of the flex joint will relieve much of the bending stresses a rigid pipe would see during normal thermal cycles (expansion and contraction). For cars that see track days where EGTs exceed 1500F for prolonged periods of time, the 321 rigid pipe is our recommendation. Not having a flex joint means that there is more stress on the pipe itself. But that is accounted for by using the higher grade steel and doubler/reinforcements on both ends. These doublers releive much of the stress that would otherwise be placed on the weld joints during thermal cycles (where the pipe is most likely to fail.) The use of these doublers, which we're had from the start, is one reason our pipe is more expensive than others.

Another benefit of the flex pipe, is leak-free fitment.

I have seen and installed over 20 uppipes myself and there are lots of variations in stock WRX manifold and the aftermarket ones. Solid pipe allows for minimum variances, since any more than the pipe can bend/flex (which isn't a lot) will result leaking.

The pipes with flex joints, can be fitted even to the most poorly made manifold that is way off the original WRX manifold.

I myself use VISHNU solid pipe since day one. I, as a matter of fact, have THE first one ever made and it is still solid as a rock, leak free, crack free and rust free.

My car have seen EGT's, boost and power that most cars haven't seen.
