Suggestions for Turboback

I am looking for a 3" turboback exhaust that isnt loud at all. My friend has a MRT turboback and that thing was so quiet. i was wondering if there were any other turbobacks that would be as quiet as this one. if there isnt one that is as quiet, is there one that is decent at idle, and only loud when its WOT.

I have also heard great things about the Borla Hush (cat back). Since you are looking for a TBE the TXS stealth back (catted version) is set up to work with the factory axel back. One thing to keep in mind is that the TXS DP will be one of the loudest when it comes to hearing the turbo and bov http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ust&prodid=883. I dont own a TXS stealthback but I have herad it is quiet if you get the catted version and use the factory axel back.

Here is a link with some sound clips of different setups http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showth...0&pagenumber=1.

if i get a catless dp, like a perrin and mate it with the borla hush, will it be pretty loud? and correct me if im wrong, but the turbo xs stealthback comes with a downpipe right? what kind of performance gains can i expect from either of these 2 systems. as for uppipes, should i be looking for one with a flex pipe?

Yes. TXS stealthback consists of bellmouth downpipe, mid-pipe or cat-pipe, and a tapered pipe from mid to axleback. I had just the catted stealthback on my car, with the stock muffler, for two weeks or so. It really woke the car up and didn't make it much louder than stock. I now have a Scoobysport twin tip muffler and that combo is very subdued until you get on it. Also, my cousin has a helix downpipe mated to borla hush (completely catless) and that is also a very quiet, yet potent, combo. GL

If you scrool down to the 8th post on the sound clip link I posted you can hear what the hush sounds like with a PDE upipe and a bosal DP. Im pretty sure his car is catless since there is so much smoke comeing out of the muffler.

Yes the TXS stealth back is exactly what boostnut said it was. I dont know about the performance gains on the Perrin DP but according to Z1 Performance's Dyno the TXS TBE is good for 26 hp and 16 lb feet of torque. Im not an expert on DP's but I dont care much for Perrins design since the the waste gate gasses turn into the main exhaust stream soo close to the turbo. I went with the TXS DP because It has a 4" bellmouth that smoothly tapers to 3" and I would think that would be less turbulent. Like I said I am no expert and this is only my opinion.

Some say you dont need a flex joint on the upipe as long as the pipe is of good quality and it is installed right. I wanted an upipe with a flex joint since the factory pipe has one so I went for the STI upipe (expensive). The Helix is used by a lot of i-clubbers ($200ish) and I have heard only great things about it.

Hay boostnut how much has the sound of the turbo and bov increased inside the cabin since you installed the TXS DP and have you been hearing wastegate flutter? I'll be installing mine in about a week and reflashing stage 2 off of my Accessport.

Mo,
The turbo sound increased alot and I could definately hear wastegate flutter when I was AP stage 2. I fixed that by tightening the wastegate arm 2 full turns. After that I was actually hitting target boost also and spool up time decreased. Good luck, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the combo.

the stromung is nice. i have the 3" catted twin tip, and i love it. at idle and low throttle it sounds stock, but when you get on it the sound is amazing. not too loud, but just nice. the look is good too.

side note, the cat-back portion of this TBE will mount up to the stock downpipe when smog time comes around.

i looked at the vishnu also. the stromung and the vishnu are both probably the most expensive turbobacks on the market.

Just get a Downpipe of yourt choice (recomend Helix, Perrin, or HKS) and get a Prodrive Axleback. Its sounds soooo sweet and its mellow enough that even my mother likes it. But when you go WOT you'll really let everyone know its a boxer engine. Changing out the stock "mid-pipe" really doesn't provide for much HP gains. Maybe 5-10hp but thats just from the third CATand that can be fixed with a simple "race pipe" that any muffler shop can whip up in 30minutes. Honestly you won't see much of a diffrence in performance from a 2.5in system and a 3in system unless you're pushing more than 400hp. Also it'll save you money that you use to get a nice Up pipe, which is equaly important.
