I just have a quick question... what is the type/name of the stock turbo on a wrx. Some guys are telling me that it's a 13g but I thought that it was a td04. Which is it? I have a 2002 wrx by the way and was thinking of using the stock turbo on my other car ('00 BMW M Coupe). I tried a search but just got alot of threads cluttered up by some soggy post *****.

I think that the whole name of the factory turbo is "Mitsubishi TD04-13G".
Some guy was saying that I had a 13g, while I was arguing that "no, I have a td04... get it right dude". Well, now I know that it's a td04-13g.

Yeah, it's a s52 motor. It holds up to boost better than the s54 motor. There is a guy in Miami that is pushing 726 bhp out of his M Coupe and it's a daily driver. Check it out over at www.aatuning.com it's under the "active news stand" box. A lot of FI M Coupes are getting their quarter mile times in the low 11's and some in the 10 sec range.... a lot more than I thought. Autocross guys are going the twin screw supercharger route because of the better throttle response. Both routes (turbo or twin screw) use 8.5 psi and put down around 348 whp and 307 tq supercharged and 342 tq for the turbo on dynojets.
The twin screw just has a torque curve that goes almost straight up after 2,200 rpm and stays at 303 tq till redline..... instant boost is good. Check it out at www.techniquetuning.com. They both are going to cost quite a bit for a complete package though.
I won't be able to use the TD04 turbo for my car. I was just hoping that it would work so I could save some cash.

I'm pretty sure that the TD04 just can't efficiently flow enough for my 3.2l motor. I'm not definate on this but many others seem to think this way about the TD04. I'm looking into a GT-35R turbo for it or a twin screw supercharger.
