Ok, what do I need to do to modify the stock air box and how do I do it? Is it just the silencer removal or is there other things? After I mod the box I put a K&N panel filter in, right? Thanks for the help!

You don't need a K&N filter. It is often considered safer not to have one since there's always the possibility that the oil from the recharge kits can get onto intake sensors and perhaps further.

As for removing the silencer, try this:

I hate to say, but this happened to me! I was amped to
put a K&N in my car. A few weeks later I noticed something
wasn't quite right...the throttle response was off, it
stumbled a little, mileage had suffered.

Much to my horror, a coating of oil had covered the sensor
in the upper air box.

By the way this was a *factory* oiling from a new filter,
not one I had bone-head over oiled myself.

I took out the filter, cleaned the sensor, and reinstalled
the stock paper element. Car now runs like a million bucks.

I now have a useless 50 dollar filter sitting in my garage.
I am hesistant to put it back in now, only to have it oil
up the sensor again.
