STI vs WRX Differences?????
Hi guys, i am in route of doing a conversion on my engine to a 2002 wrx, i was wondering what components that the wrx doesnt have compared to the sti????? i assume this list may be long but if you guys have the patients and time I'd appreciate it thanks in a advanced!!
brandon
brandon
AVCS(kinda like v-tec)
.5 more liters of displacement.
ECU
Suspension
Interior
brembos and other cosmetic things.
Another cool thing about the STi is the DCCD (driver controlled center differential).
6spd in the STi 5spd in the WRX...
i believe the STi has a shorter drive shaft because of the 6spd transmission.
No cat in the up pipe.
there are more but i just cant think of any more off the top of my head. Hope that helped a bit.

fuel pump
injectors
turbo is bigger
Intercooler is also fatter i think.
I dont know if STi internals are different from the wrx like if they are forged or not, but it is a 2.5 liter so they are different.
Cam shafts might be different because of the AVCS
On another note... maybe you should consider just buying the STi!? Or you can get an STi engine from gruppe-s for like $6k i think.

If you already have a WRX... The popular thing to do is ej257 w WRX heads and US STi cams.

I have a WRX,
it is fast. It will never be an STI. I have lots of mods. It will never be an STI. I don't have STI badges, nor a huge wing. I like my car. It will never be an STI. The STI is a great bang for the buck car. So is the EVO. Trying to make a WRX into an STI is a waste of time. Mod the crap out of your WRX and be happy. But trying to make it the same doesn't make sense. It will never be an STI.

if i wanted to do a full conversion, i would trade in my wrx for a sti.
but if you really want to do this conversion, you would have to change every major moving part in the wrx.

Am I missing something? If you want to turn your WRX into an STi just swap out the driveline. Sure it's about $8000 in parts and $2000 in labor, but its not impossible.
There are different suspension components as well but who buys an sti for the suspension? If you ask me, buying a wrx is more of the stuff you want, and less of the stuff (or at least less expensive versions) of the stuff you don't.. as far as suspension goes.
I'm building up my wrx with jdm sti parts. When I'm done I'll pretty much have "a jdm sti ver8 type ra in a usdm ver7 chassis". Can't call it an sti? who cares

not sure if someone mentioned this, but it kind of depends what kind of sti you want to turn your rex into.
the jdm sti's that are 02 still have a 2.0 liter engine right? i thought only the new american sti has the 2.5.
i thought about doing that kind of swap. but in the long run its a heck of a lot easier to just buy an sti. just getting the bbs wheels, tranny, and brembo brake system will probably run you past the msrp of an sti
