sti scoop + splitter, questions
sti scoop + splitter, questions
did a search on a few different forums for some answers, but I guess my questions are just so stupid that no one has asked them, since the answers are so obvious...
but I am stupid to the point that I can't get obvious things, so please, someone help me out with this
my first mod was the jacksonville intercooler screen (I like it) and I have just ordered a STi hood scoop, now the question is, which splitter can I get that will retain the factory rubber that seals the scoop to the intercooler, or do they all retain it?
which is the splitter that is recomended, the cheapest money can buy, diy, dealer installed, etc?
thanks in advance for any answers!

I don't think the STi piece will mate up exactly with a WRX intercooler. The STi intercooler is wider. I'm using the STi scoop, a screen, factory air diverter (under scoop) with a one-vane splitter made by Russ. His e-Bay splitter has expired but e-mail him and he can sell you one. Ask him if he still gives a discount to NASIOC/i-Club members.
Don't use the Zerosports or replica stainless steel splitter. It has no rubber seal and it weighs a lot! Too bad, too, because the welded stainless vanes look great inside the STi scoop...

The STi splitter (or at least the Spec-C splitter I've seen) will not mate up correctly to your WRX stock intercooler. The STi unit is intended to mate up with the STi intercooler.
so in order to get the see the best improvement (while maintaining the rubber seal to the intercooler) I will want to just modify the stock unit with my own design, or is there a suitable alternative solution available?

If you are using the stock WRX IC then your best 'splitter' is the stock one, regardless of what scoop is used. Moding the stock splitter is up to you, but maintaining the seal is imperitive to the function of the IC.
The STi splitter will not work with the stock WRX IC.
The bigger scoop will allow more air to be pushed through the IC, anyway.
