Stealth 3" Exhaust Solutions...

Hellooo out there.

Looks like the "dragnet" program that has taken San Diego by storm is hitting Los Angeles.

FYI for those who don't know, this program supposedly trains cops to spot modified vehicles and cite them. Once a cop leaves this program his inner asshool is liberated to prey on auto enthusiasts and profile drivers.

I need some suggestions on stealthing up my exhaust. Is it possible to mate the stock exhaust to a full 3" turboback system?

Anyother suggestions on making mods more discreet?

i had a custom catback made at a muffler shop. vibrant stealth black 3 inch muffler, 3 inch pipe and a vibrant resonator right after my helix catless downpipe. sounds alright but looks great and stock with performance.
the guy also welding in a new glass pack 10inchs long to get even more quite but it did not help that much.

i painted to pipe black with spray paint. engine paint

There are many factors to consider....

to avoid the man, it's all about how much you get noticed, Bright colors and whale tails get looked at more then sleepers that look like normal family cars.

Driving habits can also play a big part. If you gun it at every light and your ride can be heard for 400 yards away, cops will notice you.

If you do mods, make sure you get all the CARB paperwork you can. Some cops will see the stickers and papers and let you move on your way, others will send you to the ref, no questions asked.

The CHP are big on tinting. It’s one of the most consistent things I hear about people getting sited on. In CA, it needs to be almost stock in the front. I think you can have 5%, that’s not very much

Ricers under carriage lights are a big No-No, tires wider then the fender, music that too loud, and if your under 18 how many passengers can also play a part.

In addition, if you are pulled over how you act can play a big part.

Act relaxed and calm, nervous people make cops nervous.

Hope that helps.

Thanks all.

Sorry for not being more specific. I'm runnin catless UP and Catted/Resonated full 3" turboback with Cobb Stage 2 OTS ACN91 map.

This being a tech forum, I'm wonderin about the functionality or lack thereof with possibly running a 2.5" cat back to a 3" midpipe (with an adapter or any other idea for solution).

I've been pulled over in a different car just idling off the off-ramp to avoid the CHP, but the cop U-Turned to give me a ticket.

Therefore, while it is beneficial to keep a low profile, I think that with the new "Dragnet" training course for police here in So-Cal, I think hiding and stealthing up mods is more of a priority now.

Thanks for more suggestions guys. keep em comin.

Turbo XS stealth back and stock axle back. I have a similar setup and its pretty quiet, only difference is I hava a prodrive axleback, still quiet but I would think the stock axle back would be better. Hope that helps.:RockOn - not mine:

Stock EJ20T + STi up and STi turbo back exhaust....AND the STi factory airbox. All stuffed into my '98 4 door. The turbo is louder than the exhaust at WOT!

Try the Borla Hush - it looks close to stock and is comparatively quieter than other 3" catbacks (though still fairly loud without cats). Also consider the Apex'i Noir: it's an Apex'i Worldsport that comes in a matte black finish instead of chrome.

I haven't been in the Subie scene very long, but I've seen lots of people trade in their Borla Hush for something louder. Sounds like that's the one I need to get!

Oh yeah, the GReddy Evo is nice and quiet too, but it "looks loud" 'cuz it's chrome and has a big tip. So you might get hassled anyway. Go figure, that's the fuzz

Very true, I got the Evo not very loud but it looks like a cannon. The Greddy Ti is smaller but hella louder =\

Maybe I'll spray mine one of these days.

I wanted stealth as well...for a brief time...

My exhaust was pretty loud (APS 3.5" tbe)...I liked the performance aspect of the APS but at times, it was too loud for the situation or location I was at...plus that bazooka hanging out the back didn't help...

I picked up a Cobb Axleback off a wrecked WRX here and had our local tuner shop modify it to fit on my APS mid-pipe...

It looks totally stock, with a meaner growl to it...the flanges mated up perfectly...the only difference is the diameter of the piping..it goes from the 3.5" APS midpipe diameter to the 3" Cobb diameter...it's quieter than a normal Cobb cat-back because the APS midpipe uses a resonator...

That was short lived though...I now have a RS*R tbe on...you want to talk loud...at least now, the endpipe looks more like a sniper rifle than a bazooka...heh heh
