Starting in first gear .

Hey I got a mygc8 00 sti turbocharged, I jacked up my left front wheel to clean the ABS sensor. So I had to start it to turn the steering, I started in first gear without the clutch depressed and the wheel began to spin. How's this possible?

You can disconnect the sensor that requires the clutch to be depressed to start the car. Car doesn't care that it's in gear. Only one wheel turns because you either have a FWD model or all of your differentials are so roasted that all the power just trickles to the only wheel that is capable of turning.

The car's fairly new, when I started with the wheel off the ground , that wheel began spinning. What bothers me is that it didn't jump forward

Possibly a faulty switch stuck in "close" position or someone modified the wiring; maybe previous owner--if one should exist-- bypassed the switch for other reasons (ie. remote start).

You can find the switch where the clutch pedal is. There may be two switches in the area; you'll want to look at the one that corresponds to when the clutch is depressed and the switch is engaged.
