Smoking Exhaust 2004 WRX

Hi everyone,

I have a tuned 2004 WRX. Tuned by Mike @ GST Motorsports in Hayward, Ca.

I have 2 tunes and an accessport. One is for e85 and the other for 91- I mostly run e85

Vf48 turbo
Grimmspeed bcs
1000cc ID injectors
3" catless DP and exhaust
Catless up pipe
Short ram
Spearco tMIC

So, I started having smoke (white) come out of the exhaust. If been reading so many forums on this issue and can't figure it out. I'm going to have mike look at it but I am confused as to what's happening. I don't feel a loss in performance(maybe minimal) and it smokes randomly and then doesn't a me at all. Can't tell if it smells sweet or oily. But it smells ( maybe a combination?)

The other saying was smoking more than normal so I checked the oil and it we'd down 1 QT
I use royal purple 10-30. Put a QT in.

Started smoking today, checked the oil, same amount. Took off the cap, no smoke coming out. What could this be?

Also, I could do an engine rebuild. It's something I would look forward to.

Usually white smoke means burning water/coolant and blue smoke means oil. You might want to get a leakdown test performed.

I had the same issue about a year ago with my car. Just take your car into a reputable shop and have them do a compression and leakdown on the motor. Hope nothings wrong with it

Usually at idle. Once I'm going in the freeway it stops. Random too.

What is AOS? Possibly blow by. (Oil you mean? Idk cuz it's not blue like oil smoke is supposed to be.)

A certain tuner told me my motor was blown with 3 blown cylinders , paid $150 for a compression/leakdown from them. Long story short my motor is just fine, I've had 3 more compression/leakdowns since then and haven't ran into any other issues. Engine pulls hard to this day still

thats just sad. terrible service. OP, im with others with your first step being a leakdown/compression test. if i can find my kits, i can maybe come lend a hand. but thats really your first step in determining if your rings and valve stem seals are ready for replacement. but, ud be seeing blue smoke. have u checked your coolant res as well? whats it look like? whats your heater vents inside cab smell like?

Smells like coolant. But the strange thing is that my oil was low.

I'll check coolant res. but last time I looked it was fine.

I wouldnt be surprised if your headgaskets are done for. coolant smell and oil loss are never good together. means your headgasket lost its seal and is now "cross contaminating" oil and coolant. NO BUENO. if your coolant in your res if a milky, green/bown, 90% certain its your HGs. also do that leakdown/ compression test to further test the HGs. GL!
