Smog test Question???

I was wondering how long before you need to have the car smog tested? I have an 04 and i've been hearing that it was 4 or 5 years depending on model year....Is this true??

i've heard not until 2008 for us lambert (5 years from the year the car was purchased)

not that I know of, the last 2 OBDII cars I purchased was 5 years till the first smog, then 2 years after.
