Question Seeking Enlightenment: AVO Wastegate

As the title says...

1) What are the pros and cons of this wastegate?

2) What is the difference in switching out the wastegate and getting a manual boost controller?

Thanks for the help in advance...
Chris

I am not sure about the AVO WG, but I have seen some others that have higher spring rates than the stock WG. Basically what it does is hold the WG shut longer so that the turbo builds boost quicker. Then at the last second it opens and lets off excess boost to be able to hold it steady. I think the stock spring is only a 7 or 9 pound spring, meaning that at 7 or 9 PSI it starts to open. Aftermarket ones that I have seen are more like 15 pound units.

I actually just talked with Mike from Rallitek.com. Good guy, he helped answer some of my questions, which pretty much went the way you just explained it.

My biggest interest is to keep the power band from falling on its face at 6k and hoping this would help in that.

Thanks,
Chris

What did he have to say about it? I am also interested in how to keep the power on in the upper rpm range.

You can get full boost, faster, in all gears. It may help in keeping power going to redline, but he kind of avoided the subject.

Another thing is that it looks like the stock wastegate and would probably be overlooked by certain (ha) people.

Besides what WRX runs 8psi of boost stock? None. so going from 13.5(stock) to 15 isn't that bad.
