RPM Spike
RPM Spike
Hey everyone,
I drive an 04 WRX and this is what happened. So basically, sometimes when I'm driving and I gas it more than usual, my rpm will just shoot up and just stay where it is instead of catching up to where it needs to be. For example, I'll be in 2nd and and when I punch it a little the rpm will just keep increasing but the car won't. It feels like I'm in neutral and the only way for it to stop is if I just let go of the gas or if I put it in neutral. I thinkkk it might be my clutch but I got the replaced a few months ago. I have no idea what it might be but it's really annoying haha. Thanks for your help!

You can also check out what kind of labor warranty the previous shop has, and parts warranty from the clutch manufacturer.

Here is what I would do:
1. Go to the shop, explain the situation and see what their ideas are. If they installed it incorrectly but are business smart they'll rectify the problem. Warranties are not set in stone, and since the clutch is a wear item maybe incorrect installation caused it to wear incorrectly, in which case the shop should be negotiable.
2. If they say it was installed incorrectly but don't want to fix it without charging you, I would tell them no, and call someone like Len Tillem on KGO to find out what legal power you have to cover the cost of a new clutch/installation.
3. Do not return to the shop to have them fix the issue after taking or threatening legal action, as the owner/mechanic might seek revenge.
The key is to try to calmly and politely work with the shop to have them fix the issue without having to take more serious action.
