re-using an old intake
i have a question everyone. i have just recently bought 2003 wrx and i am trying to use my old cool air intake from my old jetta 1.8t all i want to use is one tube that is about a foot long so i disconnected the airbox form the wrx and took the mass air flow switch from it also. then drilled a hole into the old intake tube the same size as the mass air flow so it will fit then reconnected everything and screwed it down then i went to start the car and the car will not start. but it will start if i put everything back to normal. my question is does that mass air flow have to be air tight or grounded in any way so that the car will start?
thanks......
thanks......

i know this isnt' the answer you are probably wanting but i would suggest leaving the stock intake on there. don't try and put an aftermarket intake on. the wrx doesn't benefit from an intake in near stock form. sell the intake and use the money to buy something more worthwhile.
