Prodrive question

Hey guys whats up? I have a question for you. I was on Allsubaru.com the other day and came across the Prodrive midpipe. What exactly is a midpipe? Is it the extra piece of pipe to make the Prodrive axleback a catback? I have been looking at the Prodrive for a while now and have conidered ordering it and eventually getting a downpipe but wouldnt that be stupid to have an axleback and then the stock pipe from the cat to the axleback then out to the prodrive? Can someone enlighten me on what the Prodrive midpipe is? Thanks for your help.

from my knowledge and someone correct me if im wrong..The mid pipe is the pipe between the cat and the axle back..Yes it wouldnt be a good idea if you have a prodrive downpipe regullar mid pipe and a axle back that is prodrive. You shouldhave them all be the same size for good flow...hope this helps.

a stock midpipe contains the last cat. Looking at the website, my guess is that the prodrive midpipe eliminates that last cat. But I'm probably wrong.

My hypothesis comes to the conclusion that this is the rear exhaust pipe that would make the prodrive muffler a catback exhaust

Because most catback exhausts come shipped with 2 items separated together: the axelback muffler along with a rear exhaust pipe that connects to the stock midpipe (which contains the 3rd cat).

Here's a picture of the stock exhaust:

Looking at the pic, it would seem that the Prodrive midpipe would get rid of the last cat. If you're worried about piping diameter, you can always go to a custom shop, I'm sure they will be able to get you something.

I actually emailed prodrive with the same question not too long ago, and I can't actually find it anymore. Basically I was told that the Prodrive midpipe is a third cat eliminator pipe and is for off road use only (obviously). If you're looking into getting a downpipe, many of them replace the midpipe as well so you wouldn't really have any use for the midpipe anymore. Hope that helps.

The prodrive midpipe is a 3rd cat eliminator. To make the Prodrive axleback a cat back you could go with a 2.5" stromung intermediate pipe.it bolts right up to the factory exhaust. This is the same setup that I have. Prodrive axleback, 2.5" intermediate pipe, stromung 2.5" 3rd cat eliminator (midpipe) sounds great not too loud. Someone has a deal on these, do a search. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for all your replies. While looking at the diagram that TurnWRX (thank you) has provided, made me think too much and now i have a couple other questions for you guys to ponder. First off this pipe doesnt appear to look long enough to go from the midpipe the whole way back to the axleback section. This pipe looks to be about 2-3 ft long. Second does the Stromung definately make it a full catback? For now due to the warranty left on my car, I wanted to get a catback but as Prodrive doesn't have a catback at least over here in the states, I think my setup will be the Stromung intermediate pipe and the Prodrive axleback then eventually after the warranty is almost over with I will order the Downpipe that has a highflow cat. My area just got emissions and all it is right now is the gas cap check but they will be getting the smog check within the next few years. How do you guys think I will do with the highflow cat on the downpipe? Should I pass or not? Once again thanks for all your replies.

that 2-3ft pipe is the midpipe. it gets rid of the 3rd cat, as turnwrx has stated. check the diagram again. look at where the downpipe is, right after it is the 2-3ft pipe you have.
im not sure if the stromung is a full catback but even if it isnt you can always make it a catback by buying the resinator pipe.

pretty much:

uppipe, turbo, downpipe, midpipe, resinator, and axelback.

I did look at the diagram again and I see what you mean by the midpipe. I looked at the photo of the Prodrive midpipe again and it does have a place to plug in the 02 sensor. What I was looking for was the piece of pipe that can make the axleback into a full catback. That is the Stromung piece we are talking about and it appears that there is no resonator on that pipe which leads to another question. How much louder will my Prodrive be without the resonator? I also saw on fastwrx that they are discontinuing the oval tip which I like the most. I may end up just doing a catback instead. Not too sure yet. I plan on doing something within the next month or so. I have some time.

I have the same setup. I had my axleback on the car to begin with. Then I added the inermediate pipe & had very little, if any change in sound.
