btw some late info. I was under the impression that helix and various other vendors used a ceramic coating (internally?) to prevent major heat abosorbtion.
Do you think the extra paint would really help out?

For the paint thing...I was thinking...Is it worth the time and money to get an uppipe painted. Will the gains even be noticable? I dont really have any experience with painting uppipes, but how much more head would the paint allow the pipe to absorb? How much would that increase affect boost? Would that increase in boost (or possible decrease in lag?) be noticable or have any positive affect? Are there any negetive affects?
AFAIK, the pipe will absorb more heat, which will slighly decrease lag and slightly increase boost. I don't think it'll be noticable however. Thats just a hypothesis though.

i think he wants to paint it just to look but the only kind of coating that is going to stay on that pipe is going to be a ceramic type that i think can be gotten in black and grey for this temp range
or you can try and graft the stock heat shield in place but you will find that most likely difficult because the material you are welding and trying to weld are both high temp and the heat shield is thin so you will probably end up with a ugly looking mess
it sounds like the best solution for you money aside is to go with a sti uppipe because it looks stock but gives much better performance
