P0457 Trouble Code

Hello I-Clubbers!

Has anyone found the cure to the P0457 trouble code problem? The check engine light turns on when I'm at freeway speeds, just after a few days of refueling. I've already replaced the gas cap; didn't help. I checked the vacuum hoses that's near the alternator; all hooked up. (Read some of the past postings) I don't think it would be the fuel pump, otherwise I would feel my WRX wagon hesitating. I'm thinking it could be the vapor canister underneath the rear bumper on the passenger side. I should change out the fuel filter, since I didn't change it at 180K as well as the plugs. Now I'm thinking, those could be the problem. Any thoughts?

btw: My WRX wagon has roughly 200,1XXX miles on the OD.

Ed

For me p0457 was the blue T fitting to the right of the turbo inlet hose. Ive heard that black cannister you mentioned is often the culprit too. Good luck

Have the same issues. Everything seems to be hooked up correctly.

fuel system vapor leaks are tricky to diagnose at my dealerr we have to use a smoke machine to fill the system with smoke then try to find the leak.
charcoal canisters are at fault a lot of times, they can leak as can any fitting in the system but also they can become clogged internally and cause the same fault as a leak.

Yeah the charcoal canister has been replaced like last week. So that rules out, also all the lines near the intake manifold is good and connected. I will be checking the fuel pump tomorrow and hopefully smoke testing. If everything checks out okay, I'm gonna look towards the evap solenoid.

Took in my 04 WRX wagon today to have the trouble code "P0457" checked out. Turns out, it was the solenoid valve that went bad after the smoke test was conducted. Waiting for the replacement to arrive and should be fixed by Thursday.

That's the first thing I checked when I ruled out the gas cap. Did you try just cleaning it to see if that would solve the problem?
