opinions on prodrive axel back muffler
There are other posts on here with pics of the prodrive...runa search...
There are also soundbites of it and many others at:

I don't have one but it is supposed to be one of the best looking tips for the WRX...supposedly not louder than stock but lets a little more "rumble" out...

I have one that I got from Ryan at SPI Motorsports. I you end up deciding on getting one of these awsome prodrive bits, definately spend your money with him. He defines what customer service should be. With that said here's my $.02...
Power
In terms of additional power you might get 5hp (I've read in a few places that these have been dyno'ed and show a handful of hp increase), but in the grander scheme of things you will only probably feel a slight difference on the top end. The Prodrive exhaust does weight about 7lbs lighter than the stock unit however, which technically would be a power increase.
Fitment
Perfect... It was the single easiest install I have even done on any car I've ever owned. I would argue it is harder to change your oil than it is to install a Prodrive Muffler. All you need is a flat-bladed screwdrive (for the exhaust hangers) and a 14mm socket... Super easy install.
Sound/Looks
The exhaust sound is PERFECT in my book. If you want a loud *** ricer exhaust this is not that way to go. The sound is bit louder than stock overall, and has a much lower kinda bassy burble to it. It is quiet when you want it to be (like at idle and on the freeway) and wakes up when you get on the gas.
There is NO droning on the highway and it looks like it should have come from the factory.
I really can't asy enough good things about it. Oh and my WRX is totally stock except for the Prodrive Exhaust. Here is a 33 page thread of people that have NOTHING but rave reviews of the muffler. Talk to Ryan he will hook you up. Hope this has helped! I have a pictures if you like, so if you want to take a look PM me...

Prodrive Exh.
Just got one MY03 WRX. Made a noticeable difference. Seems as if the car is running more freely. I have some heavy Prodrive wheels which I definitely felt were there prior to installing the exhaust but after the install the car definitely accellerated quicker even w/ the heavy wheels.
Its very quiet. It may be too quiet for some but me being the low profile type I love it.
BTW, that is the only mod I currently have but IMO a good choice.
Kudos to Ryan @ SPIMotorsports great buying experience.
Install: Took longer to jack up the car than to change the muffler.
Over and out.

Had mine for about 1000 miles on my otherwise stock 2003 Sedan now. Looks great, ultra-easy install. Powerwise, I figure 5-8hp or so, and it also has measurably sharper throttle response. The turbo spools up more vigorously......and perhaps 100-200rpm lower on the tach. Soundwise its a nice understated burble, definitely NOT loud by any stretch of the imagination. The next step up the scale would be replacing the cat-back resonator with a straight pipe. I'm doing it soon, I'll report the results.

btw- off hand do you remember if the dyno;d #'s (5hp?) were of stock exhaust or de-catted... etc. 5hp sound like a lot for just a muffler, unless the stocker is that plugged up.

One of the magazines dynoed a bunch of exhausts and the STI muffler dynoed a handful of hp increase as well. And yes the stocker is very "plugged up"... The Prodrive is a straight through design and the stocker is not... IMHO the PD unit is WAY better looking than the STI piece anyhow and costs less as well...

rhk118 - Thanks
Glad to hear a little sarcasism... LOL
I used the stock gasket and bolts... And it sealed fine, but then again I only have 9k on my suby. Check out the Nasoic thread I posted above, somewhere in there is mention of somebody using a gasket with 40k+ miles on it with no problems.
My $.02

I've had mine for a couple of months. Love it. It seemed a little too quiet at first, but after a while, it seemed to open up a bit more and became louder. Not too loud, just enough to hear it and make you smile.
I had one issue with fitment, but that was only because of my trailer hitch (had to get extra long custom kartboy hangers). Other than that, perfect. Oh, I used the stock gaskets with no trouble.
