Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

octane to hp question if anyone knows?

assume you have a bullet proof engine and great flowing heads, factory cam, t-66 turbo, all the fuel and proper tuning in the world ( to some extent) whats the most hp you could pull out of california 91 octane winter gasoline. i am asking because i want to know if its possible to get 400 at the wheels on pump gas. if you dont know my build up here is some quick info:

ej22 built with 2.55 liter displacement
fully done up heads
t-66 turbo
800 cc injectors
i am going to use an autronic ecu

Wouldn't that more be a product of what you can and need to boost to get to 400hp? A larger turbo gives you move power with same/less boost, right? So 400hp on a TD04 (if possible) would require more boost than 400hp on a T66, and therefore more combustion retarding higher octane fuel. Make sense?

So what's my freaking point? I dunno if you can get a straight answer, or at least a straight corollation between HP and octane. I would think, however you could get a straight(er) corollation between boost and octane.

Do you know the boost you need to run on your system to get to 400hp?

I don't remember now... but I know that with some base line numbers (like the hp from a stock EJ25 with whatever compression it has) you can extrapolate the 2.25 hp and then extrapolate to the hp for a given addition of boost.

I don't remember it... but at least you know the calculations are possible It might be in Maxiumum Boost by Corkey Bell. I'll look it up later.
