Newbies first post - lifter adjustment
I read somewhere (can't remember exactly) that 02+ WRX engines have solid lifters. If this is true, I imagine they need periodic adjustment. How often should this be done? 30k? 60k?

Yes there are solid lifters. The factory service manual does not specify a service interval for them although it does describe the procedure to check and adjust clearance. I have heard the first inspection for the valves is supposed to be at 100K although I don't have documentation on that.

There is a small lifter with a thin shim to adjust clearance. Shims are available to adjust a range of clearances. The procedure looks pretty straightforward as long as you have enough room to work. The service manual specifies a shim replacer tool.

Thanks all
Thanks to everyone who replied. I asked because on very cold mornings (5-10F) I can hear a little valve clatter for ~30sec after startup. I guess that is something I should expect with solid lifters.
