it will largely depend on how you drive. Local we've got someone who was pushing low 12's with their car and never blew the stock tranny. . . and another fellow that's got 80K @ stage3 and 10K at stage4 putting him close to 100K at stage 4. He's on the same stock tranny. I've heard it time and time again that it's the person driving more than it is the power. While I doubted this at first i'm starting to accept it as truth after seeing high-mileage stock trannys pushing masive power and dozens of trips to the track.

Wouldn't an upgraded clutch help?

If anything an upgraded clutch will hurt your trans .. It grabs harder and faster than stock and puts more strain on the tranny downstream.

They are right, drive smoothly and your tranny will last. From all the people I have spoken to, those who have broken their tranny are the ones that drive hard and shift hard (mis-shift at times) and honestly they don't even have that many mods on them. Personally I want to launch my WRX and not shift hard therefore I'm going to get the STi RA 5 speed cryogenically treated gearset it should be a direct replacement. According to what I have heard the 1st gear can take the punishment of hard launched .... Just love those AWD launches =)

Yep just take care of it and you'll be fine, just don't do anything foolish like dropping the clutch at 7,000 rpm or shifting from 5th to 1st lol.
