Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

I've read multiple cases of people trying all different brands... It's all the same.. but personally, I think going bell mouth might be better when you go for a larger turbo.. but for stock.. you should be fine. You have the CEL fix?

I'd guess that staying with a stock turbo setup, the HKS is a decent price/performance purchase. My idea is that the main point is to get rid of the restrictive cats. I would bank that that makes far more of a difference than the wastegate issues because the wastegate opens as the system attempts to limit power, not add it... to a point. Once you add greater flow you could start to hurt top end performance.

Still running my HKS dp and am happy. Its a cheap dp and it does the job of opening up the exhast and taking away a cat. I'll be switching to a cusco piece when I swap snails.

How far does the wastegate "cover?" open anyways? From a picture i've seen, it seems that the wastegate gases would naturally want to shoot towards and mix with the main exhaust flow before it even hits the bellmouth, unless it's totally divorced. So my theory is that a bellmouth would yield minimal gains until you start making big boost. Any downpipe experts out there ?
